Lagrein vom Boden | Pfannenstielhof Winery | Bolzano | South Tyrol
"Lagrein vom Boden" - Fruity, rich and powerful, with delicacy and elegance
This "Lagrein vom Boden" from the Pfannenstielhof winery in Bolzano, South Tyrol, is a wonderfully powerful, full-bodied and dense Lagrein. Nevertheless, this red wine is soft, supple and velvety on the palate. The "Lagrein vom Boden" grows at about 270 m.a.s.l. on a deep, warm sandy and gravelly soil that was washed up by the Eisack river and is responsible for the wine's pleasant, velvety-soft character.
Nomen est omen: the Lagrein from the soil.
The addition of "from the soil" expresses appreciation for the soil on which this Lagrein grows. The Lagrein from the Pfannenstielhof stores the special characteristics of the soil in itself and these special characteristics are preserved and emphasised by careful ageing in the cellar. The Lagrein grows on Pergeln.
The result is a fruity, rich and powerful Lagrein, with delicacy and elegance, but also structure and density and particularly pleasant, velvety tannins. It is full-bodied, powerful and supple at the same time.
"We value it because it is an excellent ambassador of the terroir, which essentially shapes its character."
Processing
Nature-friendly, integrated cultivation. This includes careful manual work, be it winter pruning, defoliation, yield reduction or harvesting the grapes.
Vintage and fermentation
After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed with great care, and the must is fermented at a controlled temperature for about 11 days. After malolactic fermentation, the Lagrein is aged in medium-sized wooden barrels.
Our soils are unique - so are our wines
.The Pfannenstielhof was first mentioned in a document in 1561 and has been owned by the Pfeifer family for more than 200 years.
The Lagrein vom Boden grows on a deep, warm sandy and gravelly soil that was washed up by the Eisack river and is responsible for the pleasant, velvety-soft character of the wine.
"We are particularly connected to the soils on which our vines grow and want to make the best of them - guided by our hands."
