The Bolzano Winery is a wine-growing cooperative with a history stretching back over 100 years. As of 2021, the cooperative comprises 224 winegrowing families. It was formed in 2001 through the merger of the Gries and St. Magdalener wineries. The aim of the merger was to combine the strengths of both wineries in order to develop them into one of South Tyrol’s leading wineries.

It was therefore only logical that the Bozen Winery invested in a new winery building at Moritzinger Weg 36 on the outskirts of Bozen, near the MEBO. This was a decisive step towards raising the production and marketing of the wines to a new level of excellence. The move to the new production facility took place in 2018, exactly 110 years after the Grieser Winery was founded by 30 winegrowers.

In the summer of 2021, we were fortunate enough to take a private tour of the winery, which was built to the latest ecological and technical standards. We can only say that it is breathtaking and very impressive to see the effort that goes into vinifying excellent wines in every respect. Despite the sheer, almost unbelievable scale of the new winery – which remains hidden from view – great attention has been paid to countless small details in the production process to ensure the grapes are handled with the utmost care.

It is undoubtedly these very details that result in the wines from the Bozen Winery being of such high quality and outstanding flavour. You can literally taste the great effort that goes into them in the glass. And the Bozen Winery is also open to new and interesting approaches to winemaking, as we could see in the cellar.

It can therefore be said that the ambitious goal of being among the best wineries in South Tyrol and beyond has been achieved. Hats off!
